Existentialism

What exactly are we supposed to do in the course of our lives? Is there inherently a purpose why we exist?

Existentialism as a theory, tries to answer the meaninglessness of life. While Greek philosophers like Plato and Aristotle believed in essentialism, relatively modern philosophers like Sartre disagree. The main argument remaining: “Are we born with a purpose inherently or do we derive purpose in life throughout the course of our life?”

Essentialists have a strong belief that god created the universe and instilled in everyone a fundamental essence or purpose which that person is supposed to fulfil. On the other hand, existentialists believe that god might have created the universe but never defined any purpose to it.

So, do individuals find meaning in things like art, beauty, justice and social welfare or do they try their level best to conform to some predetermined purpose?
